INEC releases full list of 37 parties to contest Anambra gubernatorial poll

Appeal Court saves INEC chairman from arrest

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that the ruling party in Anambra State, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, the All Progressives Congress, the Peoples Democratic Party and 34 others would be presenting candidates for the November 18 governorship election in the state.

This was contained in a statement INEC’s director of publicity, Oluwole Osaze-Uzzi, released on Wednesday in Abuja.

The commission gave names of the governorship candidates, their deputies and political parties as;

incumbent Governor Willie Obiano, deputy Nkemakonam Okeke, APGA;
Oseloka Obaze and Chidi Onyemelukwe, PDP;
Tony Nwoye and Dozie Arinze, APC.
Nwezi Amechi and Okeke Njideka, a woman, All Grand Alliance Party (AGAP);
Oby Okafor and her running mate Onyekwuluje Uzoma, Advanced Congress of Democrats (ACD);
Former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka and Okeke Ogbonnaya, United Progressive Party (UPP).

Also among political parties with candidates for the elections are;

Alliance Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN),
African Democratic Congress (ADC),
Action Alliance (AA),
Action Democratic Party (ADP),
Advanced Peoples Democratic Alliance (APDA),
African People’s Party (APP),
Better Nigeria Progressive Party (BNPP),
Democratic Alternative (DA),
Democratic Peoples Congress (DPC),
Green Party of Nigeria (GPN),
Hope Democratic Party (HDP)
Kowa Party.
Labour Party (LP),
Masses Movement of Nigeria (MMN),
Mega Progressive Peoples Party (MPPP),
National Democratic Liberty Party (NDLP)
United Democratic Party (UDP),
National Conscience Party (NCP),
New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP),
Nigeria Peoples Congress (NPC),
National Unity Party (NUP)
People for Democratic Change (PDC),
Progressive Peoples Alliance (PPA),
Peoples Party of Nigeria (PPN),
Peoples Redemption Party (PRP),
Social Democratic Party (SDP)
United Progressive Party (UPP),
Young Democratic Party (YDP)
Young Progressive Party (YPP).

INEC further stated in the statement its approval of the applications of 44 observer groups, comprising 38 domestic and six international that are to monitor the election.

It gave names of the international observer groups as the British High Commission, International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), American Embassy Abuja, European Union, High Commission of Canada, and African Union Economic Social and Cultural Council.

Among the domestic observer groups include African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development; Centre for Credible Leadership; Citizens Awareness; and the Initiative for Promotion of Civic Obligation Sustainable.

INEC also announced that it has sanctioned the change of name and adjustment of logo of the All Democratic Peoples Movement (ADPM) to AGAP and has issued the party a Certificate of Registration as AGAP.
