JUST IN: INEC headquarters on fire

The headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), was on Friday gutted by fire.

The fire, which started by 11am in the morning, affected a substantial part of the building, completely grazing the Election and Party Monitoring Department (EPM).

Festus Okoye, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman Voters’ Education and Information, however said no critical document was lost to the inferno.

The INEC headquarters is the third national edifice of importance to be gutted by fire in recent times, following after similar incidences at the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) and the headquarters of the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), both also in Abuja.
