DSS stops June 12 rally in Ibadan, arrests three

The Department of State Services (DSS) said on Sunday it had started questioning its personnel for negligence after one Mohammed Guddare made a futile attempt to meet with President Muhammadu Buhari during the Argungun Fishing Festival in Kebbi State.

The Public Relations Officer of the service, Dr. Peter Afunanya, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja, said the service personnel would be sanctioned for negligence if they are indicted by the investigative panel.

He said: “The service has reviewed the video of the incident and is taking measures against its personnel found to have been negligent in their duties.”

Afunanya also dismissed reports that presidential details killed the intruder for the security breach.

He said the intruder made overzealous but futile attempt to have an unauthorised handshake with the President thus breaching security protocols.

The DSS spokesman said Guddare was stopped by security details and arrested for thorough investigation.

According to him, a preliminary investigation has revealed that he is not a hostile person, but an overzealous enthusiast of the President.

The intruder, who addressed journalists at the weekend, said he was totally delighted to meet President.

Gundare claimed that he was too excited to meet Buhari who he claimed has unrivalled integrity and moved to greet him despite the security cordon around the President.
