Liverpool to host new boys, Norwich City in EPL season opener

The 2018-19 season runners-up, Liverpool will host newly-promoted side, Norwich City, in the opening game of the 2019-20 English Premier League season.

This is according to the league fixtures released by the English Football Association on Thursday.

The clash between the Reds, who emerged champions of the Champions League, and Norwich is billed to take place Friday, August 9, 2019.

Meanwhile, English champions Manchester City will open the defence of their title the following day with a trip to West Ham.

The other newly-promoted sides, Aston Villa and Sheffield United will play Tottenham and Bournemouth respectively.

The opening weekend will also see Manchester United hosting Chelsea on Sunday, 11 August.

From the released fixtures, the clubs will get a short mid-season break in February. And this is the first time such is happening in the Premier League.

The Premier League 2019-20 season, with a total of 380 games, will wrap up on May 17, 2020.
