Messi finally agrees new 5yr Barcelona deal

Argentinian superstar Lionel Messi whose existing deal expires in 2018 has agreed to a new five-year deal with Barcelona, with whopping £350million release clause.

According to reports from Spain, Messi’s new pay packet will vary from year to year based on numerous factors.

But the 29-year old is set to become the highest paid player in the world, taking home in the region of £800k-a-week, as he commits his future to the Spanish giants.

Messi has been linked with Premier League sides Chelsea and Manchester City during protracted talks with Barca, as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner have delayed accepting a new contract at Nou Camp.

But the deal which keeps Messi until 2022 will be a huge relief for new Barcelona manager Ernesto Valverde, as they begin their quest to return the La Liga title from rivals Real Madrid next season.

Messi scored 54 goals in all competitions for Barcelona in just 52 games last season, and helped them finish second in La Liga and reached the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League.
