At midnight today, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will be battling their Netherlands counterparts in a round-of-16 clash at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup in Brazil.

The Manu Garba side will face the Dutch side as favourites, having finished as winners of Group B while the opponents finished third in Group D.

Nigeria, five-time champions of the competition, began their campaign with a comeback 4-2 victory over Hungary before defeating Ecuador 3-2 and losing 2-1 to Australia in the other group matches.

The venue of Tuesday night’s encounter is coincidentally the same venue where the Eaglets picked up their two victories so far – the Estadio Olimpico.

Team captain Samson Tijani, however, admitted that his side have been allowing the opposition score first before pulling off a comeback.

“We will look to have the initiative from the beginning against the Netherlands. This is the knockout stage and falling behind at any stage could be tricky,” he said.
