Mimiko as chair PDPGF may renew crack in NGF

Barring any last minute change, Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo State is to succeed Senator Godswill Akpabio, former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, as the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum next week.

The Forum is expected to have its first meeting since the elections and members are expected to confirm Mimiko as the new Chairman of the forum.

Speaking with news men in Abuja, coordinator of the PDP governors meeting, Osaro Onaiwu, said there have been informal meetings where about nine of the 13 governors of the party zeroed in on Governor Mimiko as the new Chairman of the forum.

This is likely to spark another round of crisis in the Nigerian Governors’ Forum (NGF) as Mimiko is also the vice chairman of the forum’s faction headed by former Plateau state governor, Jonah Jang.

Both men were conspicuously absent from the last meeting of the group that produced Governor Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara state as new chairman of the NGF, to take over from former governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State.
