Mixed accounts trail death of ex-Bayelsa gov’s aide found dead in Patience Jonathan’s hotel

The death of Nasko Egei, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress (APC), and a former aide of the Governor of Bayelsa State, Seriake Dickson is being trailed by mixed accounts.

One account of the death of Egei who was found dead at Aridolf Resort Wellness and Spa, a hotel owned by a former First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan, claimed that the deceased was allegedly poisoned by his female companion who went with him to the hotel on the fateful day.

Another account however claims that Egei died peacefully in his sleep in one of the hotel rooms with security agencies especially the police said to be investigating the cause of the politician’s death.

A kinsman of the deceased who didn’t want to be named said the hotel management had questions to answer after it was discovered that lack of functional Close Circuit Television (CCTV) in the hotel was frustrating investigations into the case.

“The hotel sure has questions to answer. A hotel as big as Aridolf cannot claim not to have a CCTV. So, the hotel will do a whole lot of good to unravel what happened.

“Therefore, we implore the security agencies, particularly the police to swing into action to investigate this sad incident. The hotel should be made to provide the identity of the lady that went with him to the hotel.

“If the identity can’t be provided, the hotel should be able to play its CCTV to know the female guest with Nasko. As kinsmen, we will not allow the matter to be swept under the carpet. We are sad about this incident.”

The death of Egei was confirmed by Asinim Butswat, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), who revealed that investigations into the killing of the married father of two kids was underway and the actual cause of his death was yet to be determined.

“It has not been established whether he was poisoned or not. At this point, we won’t be able to establish whether he was poisoned and who poisoned him.

“But we will look at the people he was with the previous night before the incident. By the time we carry out a post-mortem investigation, that will determine what substance actually led to his death. The investigation is ongoing.”

Reports say the former Senior Special Assistant to Governor Dickson whose naked body was found lifeless in the hotel room was warming up to contest in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly in 2019.
