Following suggestions of favouritism in Super Eagles line up, Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr has backed his decision to keep inviting Ahmed Musa despite not playing first team football with Leicester City.

Rohr, who was charged by the Nigeria Football Federation to secure the country’s 2018 World Cup and 2019 Nations Cup tickets, explained that Musa’s positive attitude is having a great influence on his team.

The 67-year old also backed the striker who will turn 25 in few days’ time, saying that he may not be playing in Leicester’s first team but plays regularly, making import contributions, with the club’s second team.

“For your information, Ahmed Musa is playing with the second team regularly and he is playing very well. Not in the third team but the second one,” Rohr said.

“His attitude is very positive in the team (Super Eagles). His World Cup experience is needed. He is a player who can have a very positive influence on his partners on the field of play. And that is why he is with us and I am happy to have him with us.

“We have Balogun, we have Ekong, we have very good defenders now. We have Chidozie who play for Nantes, a first French division team. We need cohesion and continuation of such with the team.”

The German gaffer recalled almost all the players invited for the double header clash against Cameroon last month for the crucial tie against Zambia this weekend. Kenneth Omeruo was the only player dropped from that list.

But the coach explained: “Kenneth is not eliminated totally but we only hope he can be playing regularly and then have the chance to come back.

“It’s better to have the same list we had against Cameroon because of the spirit of unity in that game and we need such in this game too.”

The Super Eagles will host the Chipolopolo of Zambia at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium this weekend, an event that could seal their place at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
