Nigerian school girls build robot to tackle waste

A group of school girls in Nigeria who participated in the First Lego League challenge, built a robot developed to tackle waste as their project in the international competition which sees students program Lego mini robots to achieve a specific task.

The League challenge supported by the Odyssey Educational Foundation a Nigerian NGO that works with children in 15 state schools in Abuja to offer a rich learning experience in robotics, turned out a success.

This year’s challenge titled Trash Trek witnessed the participation of more than 233,000 competitors from 81 countries.

Activities at the challenge include programming the robots to pick up and drop off pieces of garbage on a playing area, as well as demonstrating research projects related to the topic of waste.

The participating schools presented projects involving recycling, waste disposal and solar energy for domestic use.
