N’Korea will be destroyed if it continues “reckless behavior”, US envoy to UN says

US ambassador to UN, Nikki Haley has issued a stern warning to defiant North Korea led by Kim Jong Un stating that Pyongyang will be destroyed if it continues its “reckless behavior”.

Haley who made the comments after a UN Security Council meeting, also informed that the United States and its allies will defend themselves against any attack by North Korea.

She added that the UN Security Council has run out of options on containing North Korea’s nuclear programme – and the US may now turn to the Pentagon.

“We have pretty much exhausted all the things that we can do at the Security Council at this point,” Haley told CNN’s State of the Union.

Haley added she was perfectly happy to hand the matter to Defence Secretary James Mattis.

“We’re trying every other possibility that we have but there’s a whole lot of military options on the table,” she said.

24-hours ago, the South Korean presidential office confirmed that President Moon Jae-in and U.S. President Donald Trump have both agreed in a telephone chat to exert stronger sanctions on North Korea.

“The two leaders agreed to strengthen cooperation, and exert stronger and practical sanctions on North Korea so that it realizes provocative actions leads to further diplomatic isolation and economic pressure,” Blue House spokesman Park Soo-hyun said in a televised briefing.

Two days after the UN Security Council unanimously adopted a US-draft resolution slapping new sanctions on North Korea, the pariah nation for the second time in less than three weeks fired a second missile over northern Japan.

The projectile was launched at 6:57am local time on Friday (21:57 GMT Thursday) and flew over the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido before falling into the Pacific Ocean – 2,000km east of Cape Erimo according to Yoshihide Sug, Japan’s chief cabinet secretary.
