NSE: Market loses N161.302bn to profit-taking in large-cap stocks

Profit-taking especially in blue chip equities led investors to dump large volumes of shares for sale Thursday as the market shed N161.302 billion.

A negative market breadth was recorded in the day’s trading as there were 17 gainers against 15 losers.

Across the sector indices, only the Banking Index closed in the positive territory, appreciating by 0.71% to 258.39 basis points.

The Insurance Index shed 0.07% to close at 120.83 basis points, the Oil and Gas Index 0.20% to close at 205.63 basis points , the Consumer Goods Index 3.30% to close at 377.56 basis points and the Industrial Index 3.82% to close at 1,023.14 basis points.

The All Share Index (ASI) shrank by 1.36% to close at 22.470.79 basis points. Market Capitalisation fell to N11.711 trillion at the end of today’s trade.

Year to date, the index is down by 16.29%.

TOP 5 GAINERS

Jaiz Bank topped the gainers’ chart today, advancing by 10% to close at N0.55. Cadbury went up by 9.52% to N6.90. Wema rose to N0.60, notching up 9.09% in the process. UCAP added 9.09% to end today’s trade at N2.40. Vitafoam completed the top 5, climbing up by 6.12% to N4.51.

TOP 5 LOSERS

ETI was the worst performing stock today, declining by 10% to close at N4.50. UACN shed 10% to close at N6.75. Linkage Assurance fell to N0.53, losing 8.62%. SAHCO dipped to N1.67, recording 7.22% depreciation. Livestock Feeds closed at N0.65, going down by 7.14%.

TOP 5 TRADES

201.475 million shares estimated at N3.358 billion were traded today in 3,381 deals.

Access was the most active stock today with 46.809 million units of its stocks worth N297.338 billion traded in 150 deals. 32.641 million units of FBN Holdings shares priced at N141.032 million exchanged hands in 276 transactions. Zenith had 19.377 million shares valued at N268.439 million traded in 399 deals. UCAP traded 13.870 million shares estimated at N32.641 million in 140 transactions. GTB traded 13.572 million shares valued at N256.715 million in 359 deals.
