NYSC withholds discharge certificates of foreign-trained ex-corpers

The Director General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, has commended corps members who worked as ad hoc staff for the just concluded 2019 Presidential and National Assembly elections nationwide for their performance.

A statement signed by Director, Press and Publications of the scheme, Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC commended their courage, high level of discipline, patriotism and neutrality in the conduct of the national assignment.

Meanwhile, the body has also called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to pay all outstanding training allowances and other entitlements of the corps members who participated in last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.

The NYSC said the electoral commission must avoid delay in the settlement of the allowances, as another phase of the general elections on March 9 was near.

The organisation also demanded that INEC and security agencies must “continue to evolve strategies for the protection of all corps members throughout this election period and thereafter.”

The statement read, “We assure corps members of our commitment to working with relevant stakeholders to promptly address all matters relating to security and general welfare throughout and after this election season.

“In this regard, we call on INEC to, as a matter of urgency, settle all outstanding training allowances and other entitlements of the corps members who participated in the conduct of the presidential and National Assembly elections.

“The commission should avoid delay in the settlement of corps members’ allowances for the next phase of the elections.

“We appeal to INEC and security agencies to continue to evolve strategies for the protection of all corps members throughout this election period and thereafter.”
