Ogun Assembly reverses all Amosun’s last-minute appointments

Ogun State House of Assembly has passed a bill and three resolutions nullifying all last-minute appointments, employment and financial agreements undertaken by former Governor, Ibikunle Amosun.

Recall that Amosun had on the eve of his handing over, appointed 21 Permanent Secretaries and 75 traditional rulers.

During the plenary presided over by Speaker Suraju Ishola Adekunbi on Friday, the bill titled H. B 047/OG/2019- “Nullification of Irregularities (Amendment) Law, 2019” was passed.

Standing orders 45 – 48 had been suspeneded by the Assembly to allow for the consecutive second and third readings of the bill.

Adekunbi has directed the Clerk of the House to prepare a neat copy of the bill for the governor’s assent.

According to the resolutions, all traditional rulers, who were appointed and promoted from February, 2019 till May 28, 2019 some hours to the exit of Amosun, have been suspended

The appointments in respect of an alleged unqualified Permanent Secretaries and employment of 1000 people into the state workforce which were carried out by Amosun on the eve of his departure.

All statutory Boards appointments were also affected.

The legislature equally suspended all the Chairmen in 20 Local Government Areas and 37A Local Council Development Areas in the state.

This, according to the assembly, was to allow for investigation on allegations leveled against them on gross misconduct and misappropriation of public fund.

Consequently, the assembly directed all LGAs and LCDAs political office holders to hand over to the Head of Local Government Administration in their respective councils and LCDAs, just as it ordered them to appear before the Assembly on 7th of June, 2019 over alleged misappropriation of funds.
