Okorocha heightens fears of mass defection, says crisis in Imo APC beyond repair

Governor Rochas Okorocha has continued to rue his son-in-law, Uche Nwosu’s, loss of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship ticket for the 2019 elections.

According to Okorocha, the national chairman of the APC, Adams Oshiomhole, singlehandedly committed the “worst political injustice” in the history of Nigeria in Imo State.

The governor then said that the crisis that ensued as a result of the outcome of the primary election has now gone beyond repair.

The governor spoke in Owerri when the APC reconciliation committee headed by Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje visited Imo.

His statement came just as the rumours of his son-in-law and some other aggrieved members of the APC dumping the ruling party in matter of days, continues to gather momentum.

Okorocha had told Ganduje, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other members of the APC reconciliation committee, that “Adams Oshiomhole singlehandedly meted grave injustice to Imo APC members”, by allegedly stealing the mandate of Imo people.

“There shouldn’t have been crisis in the party, because of the affinity of the members. We are like one big family. When we came in 2011 it was a miracle. The who is who in Imo politics were against us but we won that election.

“We moved from APGA to the APC because of the name of Buhari, which is synonymous with integrity. I am a foundation member of the APC. I suggested the name APC.

“Those Oshiomhole gave the tickets were not APC members, the worst political injustice in the history of Nigeria happened in Imo.

“Let me make bold to say that this is not about the people here but those across the breadth of the state , the name you hear is Uche Nwosu. Against all speculation that I am leaving the APC is not true, all the state and local government executives are intact. We have done everything to resolve the issue but it appears to have gone beyond repair . The situation at hand has gone beyond what we can manage,” he said.

The govenor however said despite the provocation he would remain in the party and ensure President Muhammadu Buhari wins next year’s presidential election.

Both the state APC governorship candidate, Hope Uzodinma, and Nwosu, who is still laying claim to the ticket were not seen during the reconciliation meeting.

There is however strong rumours in the state that Nwosu may soon dump the ruling party to pursue his governorship bid.

It is rumoured that many other aggrieved members of the APC in the state will dump the party along Nwosu.

The two parties they are planning to defect to it was learnt are Action Alliance (AC) and Democratic People’s Party (DPP).
