The state police Public Relations Officer, Femi Joseph, while speaking on how the deceased was killed, said she was killed by some kidnappers, admitting that he was not aware that Funke was Fasoranti’s daughter.
In his report on the details of the victim’s murder, the police spokesman said: “It happened at a spot between Kajola and Ore, where some hoodlums numbering about 15, attacked two vehicles, 1 Toyota Land Cruiser and 1 Camry.
“The the Land Cruiser was carrying five passengers, including the deceased, which we later identified as one Funke Olakunrin. They shot the woman, we rushed her to the hospital, but we lost her.

“There is still one person left that we are still looking for, and we are working frantically to ensure that the hoodlums are brought to justice and ensure any other hostage were rescued.”
Joseph, however, dismissed the position of Afenifere’s spokesperson, Yinka Odumakin, who had said that Funke was killed by some herdsmen.
He said until arrest is done, the ethnicity of the attackers cannot be ascertained.
In his response to Odumakin’s claim, Joseph told journalists: “No, you can’t shave the head of a man in his absence. You have to wait for us to arrest them. Somebody you have not arrested, it is difficult for you to establish his ethnicity.”
It was reported that Funke was shot on Friday, July 12.
Some reports said she was coming from Lagos when her vehicle was attacked by kidnappers in Ore in Ondo state.
Joseph confirmed the tragic incident. He said the kidnappers also engage in armed robbery.
The police said three vehicles were attacked by the kidnappers and that one of the passengers, Gerald Igboroka was yet to be found by the police.
