OYO: PDP’s Seyi Makinde wins governorship election

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared Seyi Makinde, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of Saturday’s Governorship Elections in Oyo State.

According to poll results announced by the Returning Officer, the PDP candidate won 28 out of the 33 local governments in the state amassing a total of 515,621 votes to defeat his closest rival from the APC, Bayo Adelabu, who polled 357,982 votes.

Despite quitting the race to endorse the PDP candidate, the African Democratic Congress’ candidate (ADC) Olufemi Lanlehin came third with 12,375.

The Action Democratic Party candidate and former governor Adebayo Akala came a distant fourth after receiving votes totaling 8,664.
