Palestinian girl filmed hitting Israeli soldiers detained

A 17-year-old girl who was filmed hitting Israeli soldiers with a group of other girls during a protest in the occupied West Bank region has been detained by security forces.

Identified by her family as Ahed Tamim, the arrested girl is accused of assault and taking part in a violent riot after a video showed her and other females shouting at and hitting two Israeli soldiers who didn’t respond.

Reacting to the incident, Israeli military said; “Several Palestinians entered a nearby home and continued throwing rocks at soldiers from inside the home with its occupants’ consent”.

“Forces removed the rioters from the home and remained standing in the entrance in order to prevent further entry. Later, several Palestinian women came out to face the soldiers in order to incite provocation.”

The military said an investigation had determined that an infantry company commander was one of the two soldiers shown being confronted in the video, and that he had “conducted himself professionally by not responding in kind”.

However, Bassem Tamimi, a prominent activist and father of the detained girl said soldiers had earlier fired tear gas and broken windows at the family’s house.

He also revealed that Ahed’s 14-year-old cousin, Mohammed, had also been hit in the face with a rubber bullet fired by Israeli soldiers days ago.

Ahed’s cousin, Mohammed who is still in medically induced coma was shot in the face with a rubber bullet during a protest against a US decision to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.

According to reports, the victim was shot at close range during demonstrations staged in the village of Nabi Saleh in the occupied West Bank.

According to the victims relation Manal Tamimi, the rubber bullet which hit Mohammed entered the teen’s face below his nose and broke his jaw before getting lodged into his skull.
