PDP in desperation, mulls new sharing formular

Leaders of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are in desperation to end the crisis that has befallen the party.

There are three different suits in court over who should be the authentic chairman of the party, a situation, members fear may sustain the present crisis for a long time.

The Board of Trustees of the party on Wednesday took the affairs of the party, pending when the issues will be resolved.

In efforts to quickly resolve the lingering crisis, Ripples Nigeria gathered that stakeholders have continued to prevail on the former national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to let peace reign by allowing Sen. Ahmed Makarfi run the party.

The stakeholders are reportedly working on a new power sharing formula that will allow both major actors play prominent role in the party.

Already, the peacemakers have approached Senator Buruju Kashamu, who is Sheriff’s main backer to prevail on Sheriff to back down, but Kashamu has refused.

While Kashamu is said to be disposed towards ending the crisis in the party, he has insisted that Sheriff should not be humiliated from the party, and has indicated that he may support a new power sharing formula that favours Sheriff.

Emissaries have also been sent to PDP leaders in the North-East and the two governors of the party in the zone, Ibrahim Dankwambo and Darius Ishaku, to prevail on Sheriff to accept the new option.

Sheriff on his part, is also adamant about forfeiting the chairmanship of the party, and has insisted that the law must take its course.
