Police IG Idris warns CAN, others to be careful of utterances

The Inspector General of Police(IGP), Ibrahim Idris has said that forensic experts from outside the county would be invited to assist in investigating the audio recordings alleged to belong to Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike.

A voice in the recording said to be that of Wike was heard threatening to kill electoral officials who fail to cooperate in doing his biddings during the Rivers State rerun elections of December 10.

The audio was publicised just days after the re-run elections even as the state government accused the police of being behind the mayhem that marred the elections.

At least two police officers reportedly died as a result of violence that ensued during the elections.

Meanwhile, Rivers government has already set up a commission to look into what caused the violence that disrupted the elections even as Governor Wike and his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have rejected the police investigation.

According to them, the Police itself which was accused of igniting the violence that marred the election, have no right to investigate what happened during the elections.

They have therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to set up an independent panel on the matter.
