Protesters Block Zuba-Gwagwalada Road Over Land Invasion

Published

on

Protesters yesterday barricaded the ever-busy Zuba-Gwagwalada road, for several hours, over an allegation that a piece of land opposite Tunga Maje community in Gwagwalada area council was invaded by men of the Nigerian Army.

Hundreds of the protesters, who are from Tunga Maje community, held motorists plying that road on a hostage, demanding that men of the Nigerian Army should vacate the piece of land in the area, which they claimed belongs to the original indigenes of the community.

Our reporter gathered that the protest created a serious gridlock for motorists travelling towards Gwagwalada-Abaji-Lokoja axis, while some have to seek alternative route to continue their journey.

Spokesperson for the protesters/indigene of Tunga Maje community, Haruna Shuaibu told LEADERSHIP that the protest was triggered when the indigenes saw some men in army uniforms, this morning, demarcating the land and putting beacons on it, without any efforts to settle the original inhabitants of the land.

Leadership, Wednesday 27, February.
