Relief as Labour calls off strike

MINIMUM WAGE: Buhari, Labour meet

The strike action embarked upon by Labour unions in the country has been called off.

The strike was embarked upon by the Labour unions on Thursday the 27th of September, in a bid to force the Federal Government to accede to their demand for a new minimum wage.

Announcing the suspension of the strike on Sunday, the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Ayuba Wabba, said the organised labour has gotten firm commitment from the government that the Tripartite Committee of the Minimum Wage Committee reconvenes on October 4.

It would be recalled that the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, had said on Saturday in a statement that the Federal Government, in a bid to have Labour call off the strike, has sent out letters of invitation for the reconvening of the tripartite committee on the new minimum wage.
