Rivers SSG arrested as INEC cancels rerun in 4LGs

Men of the Nigerian Army have arrested the Secretary to the Rivers State Government (SSG) Mr. Kenneth Kobani, even as INEC has reportedly cancelled the rerun election in four local government areas of the state.

Reports say Kobani was picked up by the soldiers for alleged stalling the distribution of electoral materials.

Kobani was said to have stormed a RAC centre in his area having gathered that the original result sheets have been carted away, but was arrested by the military men for stalling the electoral process.

Also, reports filtering in say that the INEC stated it cancelled the elections in local government areas over the violence that accompanied the exercise in those areas.

As the tension boiled over, INEC suspended elections in Bonny, Andoni, Gokana, and Khana, Tai and Eleme local government areas.

INEC’s Deputy Director of Public Affairs, Nick Dazang, who confirmed the suspension of voting in the six councils of the state said there was also high voters’ apathy in the areas because of the allegations of fake result sheets.
