Ronaldo included in Madrid's Super Cup squad

Real Madrid are on alert over Cristiano Ronaldo’s fitness after the Portuguese left the field in discomfort at the end of Los Blancos’ 3-0 win over Villarreal Wednesday night.

While the Spanish giants club managed to remain in La Liga’s title race with their victory, the images of Ronaldo walking around the pitch for the final minutes and holding his right hamstring will be of grave concern with a Champions League semi-final on Tuesday night at the Etihad Stadium.

Sources at the Bernabeu on Wednesday night said that it was “hoped to be nothing serious” but the club won’t know more until tests.

Ronaldo is now considered unlikely to play in Saturday’s visit to Rayo Vallecano, with Zinedine Zidane already having rested Gareth Bale against Villarreal with a view to having him fit for the Champions League.

When questioned on Ronaldo’s knock, the Madrid manager preached calm:

“Cristiano has felt something, but I think it’s just a scare.

“I hope it won’t be anything serious. Tomorrow we’ll calmly assess the situation.

“A player like Cristiano, sometimes he should rest, not finish a game, or sit it out. But he always wants to be out on the pitch.

“I can’t tell you anything else.”
