Shekarau shoots down defection reports, says ‘I still consulting’

A former governor of Kano State, Ibrahim Shekarau, has denied reports that he has dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the former governor, who is a presidential aspirant, he is still consulting and would speak personally on his next line of action at the appropriate time.

Shekarau’s denial is coming on the heels of statements credited to his media aides, Sule Ya’u Sule on Tuesday.

Sule had told different media outlets including BBC Hausa Service that his boss has dumped the PDP because of ill treatments meted out to him and his supporters by the PDP.

He also disclosed that Shekarau met with Governor Abdulahi Ganduje in Abuja on Monday night where the defection was perfected.

However, Shekarau, in an audio clip repeatedly aired on some radio stations in Kano on Tuesday, denied the report, insisting that he is still consulting with his political associates.

According to him, his followers know he has a tradition of consulting political associates before taking any critical decision, and will make his position known to the public, himself, at an appropriate time.

“People are aware with the current trend in PDP Kano State. The national leadership has announced dissolution of Kano state executives of PDP. We have challenged this decision in court, because it contradicts the constitution of the PDP. We are still making consultation with PDP leaders in Kano for next line of action.

“You are aware in my political history, before I take any decision, I consult my political associates. I am still making such consultation. I am appealing to my supporters to exercise patient. I will make my position known to public myself at an appropriate time,” Mr Shekarau said.

The former governor had also declared on an unverified twitter on Tuesday that he remains a member of the PDP.
