PDP CRISIS: Sheriff wants to meet with Senators

The factional National Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, has restated his faith in the reconciliation process embarked upon by him and the Chairman of the National Caretaker Committee of the party, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, adding that the process is irreversible.

However, in what may appear a reversal, Sheriff also 7ndicated that he would soon inaugurate a campaign organisation for his factional candidate for the Ondo State governorship election, Jimoh Ibrahim.

It would be recalled that Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja recently declared Ibrahim as the authentic candidate of the PDP for the Ondo election.

Sheriff, in a statement issued by his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, in Abuja on Sunday, called on members of the party to work towards achieving reconciliation.

Sheriff said: “We also irrevocably state that the peace process initiated by Sheriff and Makarfi is irreversible.

“Therefore, every peace loving member in PDP should key into the process and pray that the outcome will be a success to usher PDP into governance in 2019.

“Henceforth, members of the party are cautioned not to make statements that will escalate the crisis in the party,” he said.

On the Ondo election, Sheriff said: “We, therefore, state categorically that the court judgment affirming Jimoh Ibrahim as the candidate of PDP is a victory for democracy and an instrument to affirm the belief in the separation of powers among the executive, legislature and the judiciary.”

“The National Working Committee, NWC, has concluded plans to inaugurate a national campaign organisation for Jimoh Ibrahim in Ondo State governorship election.

“We therefore, call on PDP members in Ondo State and outside the state to cooperate with Ibrahim to ensure that PDP wins the state.”
