Snatched Senate mace: Police arrests Sen Omo-Agege

The lawmaker suspected to be the brain behind the snatching of the Senate mace on Wednesday, Ovie Omo-Agege has been arrested by the police.

The senator who represents Delta Central was arrested in connection with Senate mace which was stolen earlier Wednesday morning by suspected thugs, who invaded the plenary’ presided over by the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

The senators had accused Omo-Agege, who is currently under 90 days suspension of leading the armed men who stormed the chamber and made away with the mace.

Omo-Agege who was at the Senate plenary on Wednesday, was ushered into a waiting police van from the Senate chambers by policemen in uniform, as soon as the plenary of the lawmakers was over.

The lawmakers had recently suspended Omo-Agege for 90 days following his comment on the Senate amendment of the Electoral Act to alter the sequence of the 2019 general elections.

While the whole drama played out, Omo-Agege was in the chamber. Despite his running suspension, he sat dutifully on his designated seat. He sat throughout the duration of the day’s plenary.

When the Senate adjourned at about 2pm, Omo-Agege was accosted by over 15 policemen, led by the commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Sadiq Abubakar Bello. A mild drama ensued before he was finally led away.
