The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), on Friday raided a number of shops in Lokoja, the Kogi State capital confiscating fake products worth millions of naira.

The substandard products seized included fairly used tyres, electrical cables and fake gas cylinders.

Kogi State Coordinator of the SON, Mrs. Anne Okechukwu said that the raid became imperative in view of substandard items that had flood Nigerian markets.

According to her, the items did not conform with specifications of the agency as its posed danger to the consumers.

She explained that the raid was a follow up of the directive by the National Headquarters to raid the markets and seize all substandard products that were not measuring up to standard put in place by the organisation.

According to her, the Director General and Chief Executive officer of the organization, Dr. Paul Angya had set aside Friday for prompt checking and raiding of life threatening sub-standard consumable items to save the lives of innocent citizens as well as ensuring that consumers of such items get value for their money at all times .

“The reason why we are doing this is to save Nigerians from danger. Nigerians must get value and satisfaction for their money. We are also working hard that SON can compete favourably with other countries. To also promote Nigeria made goods.”

The Acting Coordinator also assured that the operation would be extended to rural areas in the state.
