The Super Falcons of Nigeria kick-started their 2018 Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) campaign on a disappointing note on Sunday.

The defending champions were beaten 1-0 by the Banyana Banyana of South Africa in Cape Coast.

Christinah Kgatlana grabbed the match-winner six minutes from time firing in thumping shot from the edge of the box.

It was the ninth encounter between both teams at the AWCON championship since inaugurated in 2000.

The Falcons will go again against Zambia in match day two, in search of their first win in the tournament.

They also have a third group match to play against Equatorial Guinea, with the hope of making it to the semifinals of the eight-team competition.
