Supreme Court throws out Gov Akeredolu’s appeal, awards N.5m against him

The Supreme Court has sacked Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s appeal against courts judgments in a suit filed against him by Olusegun Abraham.

Akeredolu had approached the apex court challenging a July 2017 judgment of the Court of Appeal, Abuja, which upheld an order by a Federal High Court in Abuja, granting permission to Abraham to serve Akeredolu through substituted means, court documents in relation to the suit he filed against the governor.

Abraham, one of the All Progressives Congress (APC) aspirants that contested the party primary for the last governorship poll in the state, from which Akeredolu emerged candidate of the party, had dragged the governor to the Federal High Court in Abuja challenged the outcome of the primary.

But the Supreme Court on Friday dismissed Akeredolu’s appeal in a unanimous judgment of a five-man panel, ruling that the appeal was without merit.

Justice John Okoro, in the lead judgment, but read by Justice Ejembi Eko, upheld the earlier ruling of the Court of Appeal and awarded N500, 000 cost against Akeredolu, in favour of Abraham.
