A gang of shop burglars met their waterloo at the weekend when they were arrested by Police operatives attached to the newly re-structured Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos.
According to reports, immediately after their operation, two members of a seven-man gang that specialises in breaking into shops at Idumota/Balogun and some other markets in Lagos State were arrested, while other gang members escaped.
An unregistered Toyota Corolla which the suspects, Yakubu Adamu, 21, from Niger Republic and Issa 48, father of 5, who hails from Borno State, Nigeria, used for their operation was recovered from them and it was stacked with more than 10 bags of ladies’ wears worth millions of naira.
Also concealed in the car were 2 cutlasses, 2 chisels and one heavy cutter which were hidden after their operation.
Immediately after the arrest of the robbers, the Assistant- Inspector-General of Police in charge, AIG Abdulmajid Ali, ordered the arrest of the other gang members while also vowing to cripple the activities of criminals, hoodlums, cultists and land grabbers in Lagos and Ogun States.
