Nigeria women’s national youth football team, the Falconets, will be up against their Spanish counterparts in a FIFA Under-20 World Cup quarter-final clash today (Thursday).

The Christopher Danjuma-led squad got to this point after a last-minute goal against China in their final group game earned them a very crucial point.

The Falconets had begun their campaign with a disappointing 1-0 loss against three-time champions Germany, before reviving their hopes of advancing from the group with a 1-0 victory over Haiti in their second Group D game.

Spain were the winners of Group C. They kicked off their campaign against Paraguay, which they came out victorious with a 4-1 scoreline.

The Spanish side went on to beat Japan 1-0 in their second group game, before drawing 2-2 with United States of America in their final group encounter.

Spain have therefore scored a total of seven goals as against Nigeria’s two; and they have conceded three goals – one higher than that of Nigeria.

The game between the two teams will take place at the Stade Guy Piriou in France by 3:00p.m (Nigeria time)
