US Senate reaches deal to permanently end govt shutdown

A deal has been reached by the US Senate to end the lingering US government shutdown after it came to an agreement on temporary funding in exchange for immigration-policy overhaul in the coming months.

The new deal according to reports reveals that the spending bill will fund the US government until February 8, with the US Senate now poised to end the government shutdown.

The stopgap funding and budget measure, approved by a 240-186 House vote, will go next to President Donald Trump. The White House said in a statement that he will sign it into law, which would extend government funding through March 23.

Reports say the reached by the US Senate potentially ends the major shutdown of many federal services following the failure of the Upper House to pass a new budget and also spares Republicans further embarrassment and averts serious interruption of the government’s business.

The shutdown was the second this year under the Republican-controlled Congress and Trump, who played little role in attempts by party leaders earlier this week to head it off and end months of fiscal squabbling.
