Will Smith, Nyongo join Oscar boycott

Following the open boycott of next month’s Oscar ceremony by two prominent Nollywood personalities namely Spike Lee and Jada Pinlett-Smith, two other personalities: Will Smith and Lupita Nyongo have both towed the same line.

Hollywood superstar Will Smith said in an interview that he’ll be skipping next month’s Oscar ceremony claiming the awards are “not reflecting that beauty” of Hollywood as a whole.

“It would be awkward for me to show up with Charlize, “Smith Joked. “(Jada and I) have discussed it, and we are part of this community but this current time, we’re uncomfortable to stand there and say that it is okay.”

Meanwhile, Lupita Nyongo also addressed the lack of diversity among this year’s acting nominees for the Academy Award.
The actress who won the Oscar for the Best Supporting Actress in 2014 for her performance in 12 years a Slave, wrote on her Instagram page; “I am disappointed by the lack on inclusion in this year’s Academy Award nominations. It has me thinking about unconscious prejudice and what merits prestige in our culture.”
