Zamfara governor Matawalle seeks Buhari's help to end banditry

The governor of Zamfara State, Bello Mohammed Matawalle met with President Muhammadu Buhari on Saturday at the State House, Abuja, to brief him over measures so far taken by his (Matawalle’s) administration to tackle armed banditry in the state.

This was made known in a statement by Matawalle’s spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, who said the governor briefed the President on the measures so far taken by his administration in the state since he assumed office.

Yusuf Idris quoted the governor saying he requested the support of the president towards bringing to an end the menace of banditry bedeviling the state in recent times.

According to Idris, Buhari responded by congratulating Matawalle over his victory and commended him for the efforts. The president also pledged to support the new administration in its fight against banditry and all other social vices in the state.

Reports say the meeting with Buhari comes days after Matawalle suspended the Emir of Maru, Alhaji Abubakar Cika Ibrahim and the district head of Kanoma, Ahmad Lawal, over their alleged involvement in banditry.
