‎Lateness: Civil Servants locked up in Tanzania

Published

on

A move by a Tanzanian commissioner who ordered that a number of Civil Servants be locked up for coming late to work has received widespread support among Tanzanians on social media.
Paul Makonda ordered police in the Kinondoni area of the main city, Dar es Salaam, to detain 20 workers after they turned up late for a meeting.
Mr Makonda said the officials had failed to explain their actions.

His decision was however condemned by human rights groups which have criticised the move, saying rules and regulations need to be followed for such decisions to be made in order to avoid chaos.
Opinions suggest that Tanzanians should brace up for stricter measures by the present administration with the newly-elected President John Magufuli replacing independence day celebrations with a clean-up campaign last Tuesday.
