100 Oshiomoles can’t stop us, Edo PDP asserts over stadium use denial

The Edo state chapter of the PDP has asserted that the antics of the APC-led government in the state will not stop the party going ahead with the flag off of its campaign for the September 10 governorship election in the state.

Chairman of the party in the state, Chief Dan Orbih stated this while speaking with newsmen in Benin City, the Edo state capital.

He lamented that although his party had applied to the government in good time for the use of the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin, the government was stalling its approval, with a view to thwarting the party’s campaign.

Orbih, who said that “a hundred Adams Oshiomhole will not stop us from flagging off our campaign on Monday”, also vowed that the PDP would go ahead with the governorship campaign ‎at an alternative venue, billed to commence on Monday by 1pm.

Orbih said, “Just yesterday (Thursday) in the afternoon, the government reached us saying that they have cancelled the earlier approval given to us. But before then, we informed all the PDP elected governors, the chairman and members of the Board of Trustees and other very distinguished leaders of our party in and outside Edo State, informing them about the venue and the event.

“They had also taken adverts at the national level publicising this event before we got government order that they have cancelled the approval for the use of Ogbe stadium.”

Reacting however, Commissioner for Youths, Sports and Social Mobilisation, Mr. Priestly Ediagbonya, ‎said the letter got to his office on Friday.

He added, “I have not attended to it; . I got wind of it (letter) now. I have that (letter) on top of my table now; I have not minuted on it. This state belongs to everyone of us. Nobody has told me to cancel the arrangement. It was received at the open registry.”
