11 killed as magnitude 5.7 earthquake rocks Tanzania
No less than 11 people were killed and over a hundred others injured when a 5.7 magnitude earthquake rocked northern Tanzania.
Findings carried out by the US Geological Survey reveals that the 5.7 magnitude quake struck 43km from Bukoba, a city on the western shore of Lake Victoria.
According to reports, tremors were felt as far away as western Kenya and parts of Uganda, which share the waters of Lake Victoria, and also in Kigali, Rwanda.
“Shocked by reports of the earthquake that caused the death of many people, injury to others and destruction of property”.  A statement from the office of Tanzanian president read.
