2019: Obasanjo gives condition under which he'll consider Buhari

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that President Muhammadu Buhari has not disappointed him.
He said he would consider Buhari’s overall performance to decide over voting him again should he opt to run for a second term in 2019.

“If he (Buhari) says he will re-contest, I will look at his overall performance before I take a decision. I voted for him two years ago because I could vote for anyone besides Goodluck Jonathan.

“President Buhari, I have said, has not disappointed me because the areas which we knew he was strong, he has performed fairly well,” he said, referring to fight against Boko Haram and corruption.

The former leader stated this in an interview he granted BBC Hausa Service on Saturday. He however said that “It is not everybody that will be satisfied with the way he is fighting bribery but the important thing is that he has started waging war against the problem.”

He said, “The same way we know that with his status as a retired soldier, he will try his best to find a solution to the problem of insurgency.”

Obasanj emerged president when Nigeria returned to democratic rule in 1999 and ruled till 2007 under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Surprisingly in 2015, he supported and strongly campaigned for Buhari, an All Progressives Congress presidential candidate against his party’s candidate and then incumbent President Goodluck Jonathan.
There was report then that he even tore his PDP membership card, which he has denied.
