2022 WORLD CUP: Second round draw of African qualifiers to hold January 7

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fixed January 7, 2020 for the draw ceremony of the FIFA 2020 African group stage qualifiers.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria will know their opposition as the race for slots at the Qatar World Cup would begin.

The draw ceremony will take place at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, according to the continental football house, who had also revealed a new format for the qualifying series.

Teams ranked from 1-26 on the continent and 14 preliminary round winners will be divided into 10 groups of four teams to play home-and-away round-robin matches.

Winners of the 10 group will then advance to the third round where they will play home-and-away over two legs, and the five winners will qualify for the World Cup in Qatar.

The first round of qualifying matches will be played between March 23 and 31, 2020.
