Court remands 51-yr-old Polytechnic lecturer for rape, murder of 13-yr-old girl

An Osun State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Modakeke has sentenced a 40-year-old man to three years in prison for raping an 80-year-old woman.

Arraigned on two counts of rape and assault, the convict identified as Jimoh Oyemomi pleaded guilty to the first count of rape, and not guilty to the second count of assault.

According to court papers, the victim identified only as Mrs. Sangolana was raped and strangled by the convict on a farm at Onibambu village, near Modakeke around 2.30pm.

Inspector Ona Glory, the police prosecutor, explained while addressing the court that Oyemomi committed the offences on Sunday, December 23, 2018.

The prosecutor also added that the offences contravened sections 351 and 358 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2003.

After listening to the prosecutor’s address Magistrate A. Famuyide, however, passed a guilty verdict on Oyemomi on the first count charge charge rape and then sentenced the convict to three years behind bars.
