Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has expressed his delight over the pitting of his team in Pot 1 alongside hosts Egypt, as both teams cannot play each other in the first round.

The draw for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is billed to hold today, with 24 teams getting to know their group stage opponents.

The Eagles are in pot 1 with Egypt, Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon and Morocco, and are likely to draw Ghana and/or South Africa, who are in pot 2 and 3 respectively.

Speaking in a short video interview posted on CAF Twitter handle, Rohr said:

“We are in the same pot, so we cannot meet Egypt. Because when you play the host country, it’s always very difficult.

“It becomes more difficult when you have a team like the one you have here in Egypt.

“But when you see in the Pot 2 all the teams can win it. You have Ghana, Guinea, Mali, Cote d’Ivoire. ..all big teams.

“Even in the third pot you have South Africa and some other teams like that who can be able to win it.

“So really, you have in this tournament the best teams in Africa.”

The draw is billed to take place at the Giza Pyramids and Sphinx in Egypt, where the tournament will be hosted from June 21 to July 13.

The draw will kick-off at 7 pm Nigerian time.
