D’Tigers coach confident of securing FIBA World Cup ticket

Nigeria’s senior men’s basketball team, D’Tigers, began their title defence at the FIBA Africa Championship in Tunisia on Friday night narrowly defeating Cote d’Ivoire by 78-77 points.

Nigeria who won the 2015 edition to qualify for the last Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil, led the first quarter 17-11 points and were 42-33 points ahead by the end of the first half.

But the Ivorians came fighting in the third round as they won it 17-11 against the Nigerian men. With even more pressure being piled, the Ivorians took the fourth quarter 27-25 in their favour.

The game ended however with a one-point difference in favour of the Ike Diogu led Nigerian side.

With the victory, the Nigerians are having two points while Cote d’Ivoire picked one point from the game.

D’Tigers will play Mali on Saturday in their second game of the tournament.
