After 106 days without cabinet, Gov Tambuwal names 25 commissioners

Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal has finally forwarded 25 names to the state Assembly for confirmation as commissioners.

Tambuwal had on July 4, 2018 dissolved the state executive council and has continued governance of the state without cabinet members.

However, after running the state without cabinet members for about 106 days, Tambuwal in a letter dated Thursday October 18, and sent to the state Assembly, asked the lawmakers to confirm 25 names as new commissioners for the state.

The letter which was read at the plenary of the House presided over by the Deputy Speaker, Abubakar Magaji, read:

“I am pleased to forward to the House nomination for appointment as commissioners and members of state executive council. The nomination is in line with Section 192 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended.

“The nominees are selected after wide consultations within the specter of our society and in conformity with Section 14 (4) of the Constitution.”

The governor told the lawmakers that the nominees are persons of proven integrity, with good track records in their various vocations, adding that he was “confident that they will bring to bear their wide experience in propelling the formulation and execution of government policies and programmes for the overall development of our state.”

The Deputy Speaker, after the letter was read, said the nominees will be screened on October 23 and 24.
