Former Nigeria coach, Clemens Westerhof has reiterated his stance that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will emerge champions of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The Eagles are set to play against Algeria in the semifinal of the competition on Sunday having defeated South Africa in the quarter-finals.

Westerhof won the Afcon title with Nigeria in the 1994 edition of the tournament, and has been following the Egypt tournament since the start.

In a chat with CompleteSports, the Dutch insists Algeria cannot possibly defeat Nigeria, and sounded sure that the trophy belongs to the latter.

“Super Eagles will win, yes. Algeria to stop Super Eagles? No, they are not strong enough to beat the Super Eagles,” Westerhof boasted.

On their way to the last four, the Eagles lost to newbies Madagascar 2-0 before triumphing over defending champions Cameroon in the last 16 and beating the Bafana Bafana in the quarter-finals.

“When they (Super Eagles) lost to Madagascar, I said it was not the Eagles I knew. I said it was shameful, disgraceful,” he continued.

“Now they are in top form. With Cameroon out, South Africa gone home too, so it is Super Eagles and the cup. It is in their hands and I don’t see Algeria stopping them.”

He added: “Yes, Super Eagles will win (against Algeria). They will also win the cup. The players are experienced, they are now playing with good mentality.

“It (winning the title) is in their hands. They can win it. Algeria is not a problem.”

The Eagles will take on Algeria on Sunday by 8:00p.m in Cairo, Egypt.
