Amapakabo hails LMC over response to row with Rangers

Former Rangers coach, Imama Amapakabo, has commended the swift reaction of League Management Company (LMC) in curtailing the row between himself and the club.

Amapakabo, who coached Rangers to their first league title in 32 years last season, was arrested by the police on the orders of the club management after he allegedly took off with his official car even after he had been sacked.

But the LMC last Friday ruled that the club and its official had breached the NPFL Rules and Framework in the course of the dispute, handing down several fines and bans on the club and its executives.

“I thank everybody who showed concern in respect of my matter with Rangers Football Club,” Amapakabo told Score Nigeria in an interview.

“It has also given credence to the league organising body that they are really on top of whatever they are doing.

“We have gone through a lot of issues and I am thankful that they have been able to come up with a reasonable decision and this has actually told everybody that they are an honourable body.”

In a statement on its website, the LMC directed Rangers to pay the sacked Coach N16.7 million within 10 days, which includes owed salaries, compensation for wrongful termination, arrears of allowances and bonuses and his international travel allowance.

“Their response has proved to everybody that they are up to whatever it is that they want to do in respect of football,” he added.

The Coach got sacked after the reigning NPFL champions got off to a very poor start in the domestic league this season. They were also knocked out of the CAF Champions League by Zamalek and were just on the verge of crashing out of the Confederation Cup when his contract was terminated.

Continuing, he said, “I think it’s unfortunate that these things are happening. Some persons in the management board of Rangers failed to understand what football is all about.

“I think it’s shameful and disgraceful that such matter degenerated to this level.”
