BIAFRA: More knocks for IPOB as Ohanaeze youths applaud proscription of group

Ohanaeze Youth Council Worldwide on Friday applauded South East governors for banning the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and other pro -Biafra groups.

The youth wing of the Igbo apex body stated this in a statement signed by its national president, deputy national president and secretary general, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, Arthur Obiora, and Okwu Nnabuike, respectively.

Others who signed the statement were Kingsley Dozie and Barrister Dikeadi John.

“The decision of the governors was the need of the moment , to avoid a declaration of state of emergency in the South – East. We are saddened by the level of confrontation between the Nigerian Army and the Biafra agitators and the consequent death of many Igbo youths in the process.

“We are also sad over the reported death of a policeman during this unfortunate but avoidable incident. We are equally aware that the South – East Governors were also in discussion with the agitators before the military launched its action.

“However, considering the level of destruction and ruins that could have erupted, we applaud the South – East governors for rising to the occasion. It was indeed the need of the moment.

“We cannot afford to continue to lose the life of our people, in addition to over three million killed during the Civil war,” they said.

Meanwhile, IPOB has lauded the Southeast Senate Caucus for opposing its categorisation as a terrorist group by the Federal Government.

IPOB further called on the National Assembly, United Nations, African Union, European Union, United States and others to investigate the alleged killings.

In a statement by its spokesman, Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB said, “We the Indigenous People of Biafra and its leadership worldwide under the command and leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu wish to commend the caucus of South – Eastern senators for standing firm and bold in condemning the Nigerian government and her judiciary for proscribing and labelling IPOB a terrorist group.

“The South – East lawmakers refused to be cowed into submission to tag IPOB as a terrorist and unlawful organisation.
