Biafra: Witnesses refuse to testify against Kanu

Witnesses lined up against the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu by the Federal Government, Monday refused to testify against him.

The Director of Public Prosecution, DPP, Mohammed Diri, informed the Federal High Court, the witnesses, a mixture of civilians and operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS, were not ready to appear before the court, unless an order is made to have them shielded from the public.

It would be recalled that Justice James Tsoho had on February 19 ruled against masking of the witnesses or barring members of the public from the trial.

However, the defence objected to the submission and argued that the prosecution is delaying the trial.

Justice John Tsoho had to stand down the trial after a defence counsel, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, complained to the judge that the DSS threatened to kill him when outside to plead for Kanu’s family to be allowed into the court room. The DSS however alleged that there were plots to hijack Kanu out of the court.
