Former Mayor of London, Boris Johnson has announced he will not be running to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom throwing Conservative leadership wide open.
His announcement not to join the fray leaves Home Secretary, Theresa May as one of the hot favourites to be the next Prime Minister of the UK.
In a dramatic press conference just moments before the deadline for nominations passed, Mr Johnson said that the next Tory leader would have to unify his party and ensure that Britain stood tall in the world.
“Having consulted colleagues and in view of the circumstances in parliament, I have concluded that that person cannot be me,” he said.
Others in the running to become the next UK Prime Minister aside Theresa May include; Michael Gove, Stephen Crabb, Liam Fox and Andrea Leadsom who have all been confirmed as the official Tory leadership contenders by the chairman of the 1922 Committee, Graham Brady.
