Brazilian Senate gives go-ahead for Rousseff’s impeachment trial

The impeachment trial against President Dilma Rousseff on charges of breaking budget laws is expected to begin anytime soon after Brazilian Senators voted 59 to 21 to begin the process to probe her.

Though, the Senate was still debating the vote, three of the four charges against Rousseff had already been approved in an impeachment process that has stalled Brazilian politics since January.

Her trial is due to start around August and will last five days and if convicted, Rousseff will be removed from office, ending 13 years of leftist rule by her Workers Party, and confirm that interim President Michel Temer will serve out the rest of her term through 2018.
